Tropical architecture built
with its landscape

A private coastal residence on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica — designed to live with the jungle rather than clear it. The brief was for a family compound that felt open, connected to the outdoors, and genuinely sustainable without performing it.

The plan responds to the irregular site geometry, stepping across the terrain and orienting key living spaces toward the water. Natural stone cladding, timber soffits, and full-height glazing dissolve the boundary between inside and out. The pool runs along the social edge of the house, becoming both the visual and physical centre of the compound.

Materials were sourced locally where possible — block concrete and steel structure, limestone cladding, hardwood decking. The green roof reduces heat gain and integrates the building into the hillside when viewed from above.
